Our Union Gives the Company Wants More

The working people at WKBW-TV have been trying to bargain a new contract with the station for almost 1 ½ years.  We have agreed to work harder, not enough evidently for WKBW.  We have agreed to learn new skills, not good enough for WKBW.  We have agreed to cut benefits, WKBW needs more cuts.  All we have asked for is the security of keeping our jobs.  They won’t tell us what they have planned for the next few years so that we can offer to assist them in attaining their goals.  No matter what we offer it is never enough.  The company demands the right to give our jobs away.  Why hurt people when you have more work to do?

This station insists on their employees having a college education yet they want to pay them less than a living wage here in Western New York.  The young workers would never be able to pay off the loans they are forced to take in order to obtain the education that WKBW-TV wants them to have.

All this and the company never said that they aren’t making money.  They just want to make more than they have been making.  They are not in danger of going under because a new owner has supplied them with fresh money.  They don’t want to share their good fortune with the people that make it possible for them to profit in the first place.

Tell Bill Ransom and WKBW’s owners to stop taking advantage of their employees.  It is not okay, especially in this tough economy.   They should be setting a good example by working together with their employees.  No one should suffer just so they can pad their profits.  They should be ashamed.  Enough is Enough Already!

How you can help us.
